Create a flowchart showing the occupations of your parents, grandparents etc, as far back as you can. If any migrated to your local area from elsewhere in the UK or the world, mark on your chart who the first migrant was. Compare charts with other students.
These stories can form the basis of a short story, piece of drama or film – as could similar stories from your own community.
Work is a big part of most people’s lives and you could invite some people into school to be interviewed about their working lives as part of a project looking at local occupations.
You could carry out a survey of the occupations of adult migrants in your local area:
Do they show that migration to the UK brought improvement over time for those families?
